The Role

We are looking for a tech-savvy and result-oriented CFO that understands our business and the market in great detail. You will be responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of finance from financial control and  accounting, to tax functions and treasury in Australia. You will be the head of our finance team and be responsible for running an effective accounting function for our financial operations. We need someone with vision and ideas who will tackle any problem as well as the ability to roll your sleeves up and get involved when required.


Reporting directly to the CEO, you must be passionate about financial control and ensuring that the business is performing strongly. You will play a key role in looking at revenue and costs and identifying opportunities for improvement. You will implement strong but efficient processes to ensure the business is moving in the right direction. You must be an effective communicator and a strong team builder.  You use data and logic to backup decisions and improve understanding.


The CFO responsibilities include:

  • Accountable for financial management, accounting, financial reporting and control
  • Responsible for updating the CEO, leadership and board on Thrive’s financial performance
  • Have a strong commercial focus that drives the company’s financial planning and reporting
  • Performing risk management functions by overseeing liabilities and investments
  • Identify and implement a clear reporting process on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
  • Deciding on investment strategies by considering cash and liquidity risks
  • Drive an increase in financial performance
  • Control and evaluate fundraising plans and capital structure
  • Ensure cash flow is appropriate to support operations
  • Providing support to external consultants and manage a timely and effective audit
  • Extension of the above listed functions to other markets in the region in the future
  • Create strong cost control mechanisms that ensure an appropriate return on investment
  • Maintain a strong relationship with our banking, partners and external auditors


Experience required:

  • 7+ years’ experience in finance functions, ideally with experience of working in banking
  • Chartered Accountant (ACA or equivalent), trained in a reputable practice
  • You have graduated with a degree from a top university
  • Experience with a fast scaling startup is a plus
  • Deep understanding of a bank’s balance sheet, regulatory ratios, and accounting principles
  • Be able to build a bank P&L and B/S (with key ratios) model from scratch
  • Strong accounting knowledge, with proven experience in applying appropriate standards
  • Excellent organisation skills: ability to plan and organise work so that it is efficient and effective
  • Strong technical skills to understand and design the financial system infrastructure
  • Experience rolling out financial control systems, processes and training team members on usage
